East Chipping Norton Development

Land to the east of Chipping Norton (previously known as Tank Farm) has been designated as a Strategic Development Area by WODC. The land is jointly owned by Oxfordshire County Council and Cala Homes, who plan to develop the site with an estimated 1200 homes. The town council see this development as an opportunity for Chipping Norton to have a forward-thinking and innovative site for housing and community development, however, they need the support of Chipping Norton residents to provide additional knowledge and expertise.

The Town Council are looking for community members to voice their opinions on topics for this site including biodiversity, road access, and housing. If you would like to get involved, Build Chippy Better! is comprised of Town Councillors and volunteers from the Chipping Norton community and currently meets regularly in the Town Hall or online via Zoom. Please contact Katherine at deputyclerk-tc@chippingnorton.gov.uk for further information and to join the mailing list.

Update as of April 2024:

The southern portion of this Strategic Development Area has been scheduled as an Ancient Monument by Historic England, after findings during the site’s archaeological survey. The full listing of “Romano-British rural settlement and Iron Age remains, on the eastern edge of Chipping Norton” can be found on Historic England’s website, along with maps of the site.

This means that the development of the site by OCC and Cala Homes has now paused, along with the regular meetings of the Chipping Norton Build Chippy Better Group.

The Town Council will keep residents informed about any further updates to the Strategic Development Area plans.
